Fourth Annual AHCA "All American Scholars" Announced for D1 Hockey
Division I Men (318) and Women (253) Recognized by the AHCA for 2019-20 Excellence
The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) is once again recognizing varsity ice hockey players who compiled exceptional results in the classroom during the 2019-20 season with the announcement of the fourth annual "Krampade All American Scholars." Due to the effects of Covid-19 on actual grades in the spring, the AHCA adopted revised criteria for this year's honorees. To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for the fall semester and participated in 40% of their school's games. The names of 571 Division I men and women are being released today and their Division II-III counterparts will be announced in the coming weeks. A small number of waivers to the 40% participation requirement was granted due to injury or for back-up goaltenders.
"These are exceptional individuals," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "The sport demands a great deal from these athletes so it is a great statement they make, individually and collectively, with their ability to attain this level of academic achievement while contributing at the NCAA Division I level."
The following "All American Scholars" should be singled out as they were also voted "All American" status for their on-ice performances in 2019-20:
- Morgan Barron, Forward, Cornell University: First Team All American on the ice.
- Lindsay Browning, Junior Goaltender, Cornell University: Second Team All American on the ice.
- Frank Marotte, Graduate Goalie, Clarkson University: Second Team All American on the ice.
- Dryden McKay, Sophomore Goalie from Minnesota State: First Team All American on the ice.
- Jincy Dunne, Senior Defenseman from Ohio State: First Team All American on the ice. (Repeat)
- Abby Roque, Senior Forward from Wisconsin: First Team All American on the ice.
